Susan Bamford Caleo

Performer, Singer, Voice Teacher, Song-writer.
Lives in Melbourne, Australia
Roy Hart Voice Teacher since 2023

I love being in a vocal-physical laboratory style exchange with students, focused on listening and becoming. I hope my students find the lessons empathetic, playful, even mischievous environments of mutual learning and active dialogue, attentive to healthy vocal practice. I am inspired by the choices that the extended approach of Roy Hart work offers, allowing us to explore vocal journeys with curiosity rather than judgement, and to meet on our own terms, coming from where we are, in the moment.

Susan is excited by the expressive potential of voice and body, experimenting in transdisciplinary musical composition and exploratory performance both in live production and recordings.

She is an an award-winning performer, a singer, teacher and creative producer/administrator focused on both pure and applied practice. She believes in the power of visionary art for community-building and for 14 years co-ordinatored the Federation Handbells Program for Museums Victoria, providing musical outreach to communities around Australia and the world

She teaches privately and at institutions including Victorian College of the Arts. She is the first voice teacher in Australia to be certified by the Centre Artistique International Roy Hart.

Her principal vocal training has been directed by Linda Wise, Vicente Fuentes, Carol Mendelsohn, Saule Ryan, Jonathan Hart-Makwia and Enrique Pardo.

Susan speaks English.
