Stephen Rivers-Moore

Musician, Choral Director
Lives in Le Vigan, France
Worked with Roy Hart and was part of the Roy Hart Theatre (before 1991)

I am drawn in particular to vocal expression through melody and harmony, and to instrumental expression where the instrument ‘sings’ its instrumental line. I believe that music can touch the human soul, and that making music can nourish our soul and help us to discover ourselves and who we are.

Stephen Rivers-Moore was born and brought up in England.  As a child he started with lessons in classical music (recorder and French-horn) and then did professional performance training at the Guildhall School of Music in London from 1966 to1968.

He met the Roy Hart Theatre in 1972 and stayed with them as an active member of the group, first in London and then in Malérargues, until 1984.

Subsequently he has worked a lot directing various amateur choral groups in the Cevennes and in Montpellier, moving more and more towards baroque music as a preference.

His teaching therefore is influenced both by his classical and baroque musical training and at the same time by his long experience with the Roy Hart Theatre.

Stephen has worked with Roy Hart and many other founding members of the Roy Hart Theatre.

He speaks French and English.
