Laurent Stéphan

Assistant Secretary of the Board of Directors

Laurent is an actor, a singer specialized in traditional polyphony, a massage practitioner, and a voice teacher. It was while studying music therapy in Montpellier in 1985 that he learned about the Roy Hart Theatre, so he started attending weekly workshops with Pascale Ben who then introduced him to Malérargues.

After attending workshops with various teachers at the Centre, he was hired in 1992 and 1993 as an actor-singer in the show “Les époux-épouvantails” produced by the Compagnie Amadée, one of the offshoots of the Roy Hart Theatre.

Afterwards, he worked on a variety of theatre projects, notably masked theatre, visual theatre and object theatre, touring internationally. He moved away from Malérargues for about fifteen years to pursue other enriching experiences. However, the body and vocal work he had done there had left such a deep impression on him that he decided to return to this source in 2007. He became a certified Roy Hart teacher in 2010.

He has volunteered with the CAIRH on various tasks such as proofreading and translation before serving on the CAIRH Board of Directors in 2015 and 2016.

Laurent has been based in Malérargues since 2017. He is currently a member of the BOM (Body of Mentors) and a shareholder of SCI de Malérargues. He was reelected to the Board of Directors in 2021 and elected Assistant Secretary in 2023.
