Workshop Description:
“The voice is the muscle of the soul” Roy Hart.

The encounter with one’s own voice, which is not bound to aesthetic norms, is a voyage of discovery.

Every voice carries an enormous potential, a multitude of voice qualities. This weekend we invite you to explore them. We will start with breathing and physical exercises and warm up the voice in playful exercises. Through improvisation and inner imagination we will discover the voice expression in its fullness and diversity. The emotional potential of the human voice plays an important role in this process.

Polyphonic songs from Georgia will accompany us throughout the weekend. Georgia lies in the heart of the Caucasus and has developed an impressive vocal tradition over the centuries: Songs that were and still are embedded in the everyday life of Georgians, lullabies, love songs, work songs, but also sacral and ritual songs. Laurent Stéphan is through many trips to Georgia and many years of experience in Georgian vocal ensembles connoisseur of this 3-voice vocal culture and conveys much joy and fine feeling in learning these beautiful songs.

Laurent’s teaching is in English. No knowledge of music is required.

Laurent Stéphan and Edda Heeg are voice teachers at the Centre Artistique International Roy Hart in Southern France.
