CHIAROSCURO
The theme of the 2025 Myth and Theatre Festival will be CHIAROSCURO, therefore both festive – as befits a festival – but also serious, even obscure, given it will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the tragic and violent death of Roy Hart.
CHIAROSCURO will continue the explorations of the MAGIC Cycle, begun in 2017, whose premise is that “Magic is the broadest and richest horizon of human agency and thought”, but also that “Magic cannot be confined to optimistic illusions; it is too often accompanied by terrible spells.”

Two facets:
1. PRACTICAL: Voice (after Roy Hart), and Voice Performance
WORKSHOPS, Choreographic Theatre LABORATORIES*: voice/movement/text synthesis, and PERFORMANCES.
2. THEORETICAL: seminars, debates and lectures in connection with the work, themes, and performances.
(*The Choreographic Theatre laboratories will feature Caravaggio (1571 – 1610) as lighting designer, the dazzling genius of CHIAROSCURO staging, but also… murderer. See festival IMAGE .

Enrique Pardo will follow up his “defense and illustration” of Roy Hart and James Hillman , inspirational geniuses of Pantheatre, and give the floor once again to Xavier Papaïs , the leading contemporary thinker on MAGIC, and to Sonu Shamdasani , historian of psychology (author with James Hillman of Lament of the Dead .)

    Students are accommodated in simple but comfortable shared rooms with two, three or four beds, shared bathrooms and two fully-equipped kitchens. Sheets and blankets are provided.

    1) we do not have single, private room
    2) we do not make or take reservations for participants lodging outside the Centre
    3) for residencies and longer stays it may be possible to rent appartments in the Château – these too also get booked early for the summer. More info HERE

    Workshop enrolment is confirmed only upon receipt of deposit.

    • Upon submission of the enrolment form below, a deposit of 120 euros per workshop is required, as well as payment in full for accommodation. Please pay your deposit within four days or enrolment will be automatically cancelled. Accommodation bookings will only be taken into account once payment has been received.
    • Unless otherwise specified, workshop fees do not include meals. Shared kitchens are available for the use of workshop participants.
    • For a refund in the event of cancellation, the deadline for withdrawing from a workshop is 30 days before the workshop is scheduled to begin. A €30 administrative fee will be charged for all cancellations. We regret that deposits are non-refundable within 30 days of the first day of a workshop.
    • In the event of low enrolment, the centre reserves the right to cancel a workshop and any deposit can be transferred to another workshop, or fully refunded.
    • The Centre Artistique International Roy Hart is an association under French law and all workshop participants must therefore be members. The annual membership dues are €30.
